Anthropologie Floral Puffer Coat

Anthropologie Floral Puffer Coat

It’s soft. It’s plushy. It’s suede. It’s pretty! It’s the total “It” factor for your coat rack this winter. The Floral Puffer from Anthropologie. This cold weather “must have” keeps you warm and looking cute. If you’re a New York native you’ve heard this statement too many times: “this is not the weather to be looking cute.” The Floral Puffer has proved this theory wrong.

Sweater: LOFT

I was expecting this to be a bulky, heavyweight jacket. To my delight it was actually lightweight and allowed for a sweater underneath.

I’ve been seeing pink velvet puffer jackets all over the gram and many online retailers. I was tempted to get one of these cotton candy-esque puffers but, the more I kept seeing them, the less unique it became. What’s the sense in investing in a statement piece that every girl on campus, the gram, and in the boroughs will have. It’s just another basic (although very cute) fad and I’m not interested.

Velvet is a trending resurrection from the 90s and I’m all for it. But I also have a have a habit of making my fashion choices all Kaye’d up by choosing pieces that have a certain flare that resonates with me. It’s not style if it doesn’t reflect who you are. Aside from the whimsy floral pattern and beautifully washed out navy blue color, suede is what really adds uniqueness to this coat.

Suede is a timeless material and is commonly used for footwear. You will also find it used for many pea coats (particularly a raw edge cut), moto jackets, and some handbags. While velvet is a beautiful material, it can also look a little cheap depending on the garment. Suede typically gives a garment (like a shift dress) a structured and polished look.

The floral puffer is made with a light suede fabric that makes the floral pattern appear neatly placed on the jacket without being too flashy. It adds subtlety to an already eye catching piece.

Let’s get Kaye’d up!
When it comes to patterns and prints, I like to seek out the smallest dosage of color used, to add a matching one color bold piece to bring out the little bit of that particular color that was used in the print. For the Floral Puffer Coat, I noticed small hints of light pink and lilac. Perhaps light pink would be the obvious choice for anyone to work with. I thought so too. Initially I sought to put a light pink knit top underneath the jacket. It ended up looking too clashed. This is because the main color of the jacket already has a washed out look to begin with. The pastel pink I chose only made it worse because pastels are technically washed out colors making them to appear light. Pink and blue are total opposite colors and in this case was not a good mix. The icy blue sweater I’m wearing brought out the floral print even more because it is a similar shade of blue used on the print. It created a nice contrast without being distracting and keeps the attention on the jacket itself. After all, the Floral Puffer will be the showstopper to any outfit.

Betsey Johnson Press Event

Betsey Johnson Press Event

Strawberries, pineapples, and cherries. Oh My! Betsey Johnson’s summer collection is sure to have your mouth watering with tropical fruit inspired pieces. Known for her outrageous runway shows, nostalgic handbags, and boutiques that are all pink, Betsey Johnson‘s summer lineup refused to disappoint.

Pietro Lolita in Soho, which is also known for all things pink was the perfect venue for the press release. This event was filled with summer vibes from the moment I walked in. Mannequins were sporting pink wigs and the were models dressed in summer frills. The swimsuit line up is giving an old school sense of the 1950s with pin up style one piece suits, high waist bottoms, and bandeau tops. While Betsey is known for bold floral prints and stripes, she seems to be elevating the classic prints by adding something sweet. The classic gingham and stripe pattern have now been embossed with jeweled cherries on the shoes and an all over lip print added to the stripes. Mixing patterns is quite the challenge with fashion but, you can save yourself the headache by having Betsey Johnson in your wardrobe this summer.

This collection doesn’t stop at patterns. The event featured an array of nostalgic handbags with the intention of making our mouths water. Count on Betsey to turn your favorite summer treats into a go to summer handbag. A crab and cherry shaped leather zip clutch are sure to become your vacation essentials. The classic summer straw bag has now been transformed into a pineapple and strawberry shaped wristlet that can also be worn as a cross body. You can now enjoy a  firecracker popsicle without the mess with Betsey’s leather popsicle gold chain cross body bag. Mr. Softee might owe you a tip! Take a tip from me and do not skip out on this collection.

Overall, Betsey Johnson’s press event was the ultimate introduction to the season’s new trends. It had everything you could want in a tropical getaway without the travel headache. If you’re looking to amplify your style this summer, look no further than Betsey Johnson’s new summer lineup.

SIMPLY Beauty Conference NYC

SIMPLY Beauty Conference NYC

Up until recently, I had never heard of the SIMPLY Beauty Conference. This event was powered by NYLON. I’m so glad I looked into it and got to experience the event during Fashion Week. Fashion Week is what most consider going to the shows, and the now trending, street style fad in which many hope to get noticed by a flock of photographers looking for outrageous outfits. I don’t think this trend is fading out anytime soon. It’s not fashion week without it. So I was glad the Simply Beauty Conference had something different to offer. After taking a look at the Simply and learning and learning about the event, I was dying for a VIP ticket. Since this was out of my budget with the spring semester approaching, I went with the social butterfly pass which was totally worth it. I was able to connect with those who share my interest in fashion, beauty, and blogging.

There were different stations set up for companies to advertise their products, apps, and shops. Each station had their own unique set up for snapping pics and complimentary samples of their products. The first company I noticed was “Wen”. I’m sure most of you are familiar with the infamous hair treatment line by Chaz Dean. How could anyone resist sitting on a fur seated swing with floral vine handles. The photographers who took  professionally done photos also gave you printed copies within minutes after taking your pictures and the option to have them texted to your phone. Before I could have my picture taken I was given a handmade flower crown that I got to customize with different color options offered to me. No Snapchat filter needed.

Overall The Simply Beauty Conference was a social event for people to be able connect with each other, share interest, and mingle. The companies advertising their products were very generous and showed a lot of creativity in how they advertise using unique photo backdrops and set ups. The atmosphere felt relaxed and not overwhelming while still having an upbeat energy with all the excitement. The Social Butterfly pass was totally worth it. I’ll be the first to sign up when SIMPLY makes their return to NYC.

Alice and Olivia Stace Face Sweater Dress

GIVING STACE FACE

If you’re walking down Madison Avenue and see a well dressed Damme wearing massive round sunglasses, and striking red lips, please be aware that she is rocking “Stace Face”.  Add a bun to her hair and she’s aced the signature look created by Stacy Bendet. Unfortunately for me, I have yet to achieve this look. While I was in keen search of a wardrobe change to welcome fall favorites from fashion week, I found my closet desperately craving a signature piece from Alice & Olivia. I’ve window shopped the store countless times, staring in awe at the whimsical yet chic styles on display and on the website. My current obsession is the signature “Stace Face”. Excited to see the site had the classic Stace Face printed on a dress, my fingers did the clicking instantly. Immediately I thought, “I found my outfit for the the Teen Vogue Meet Up.” Indeed I did. I had to have it!

Before I could get to the Summit (which was a month away), I had always wanted to take photos inside the Oculus at World Trade Center. I called up my good friend and photographer Joseph Akhuetie to take some shots. I wore my sweater dress with a powder blue suede overcoat from Zara (AW 17). It’s lightweight and has an oversized fit which doesn’t add too much bulk to my outfit. Since this sweater dress has a slight batwing shape to the underarms, the oversized fit of the coat makes it easy for me to move my arms. To finish off the look, I wore a pair of cord wrapped, sock style, open toe booties from Zara (AW 17).

WHAT TO WEAR

Combining primary colors always creates a nice contrast to any outfit. The red lip is the standout color on the sweater. The Stace Face design is already eye-catching on it’s own. Adding a lighter shade of blue creates a subtle contrast from the pop of red while still focusing attention on the bold design .

Sock style boots are very flattering to the shape of any leg. They give a more sleek look that compliment dresses and skirts really well. Black was an obvious choice me however, this keeps the focus on the dress without creating any clash.

It’s fashion. I get it. Everyone has their own unique style that sets them apart from what appears on the runways and what we see on the street. The Alice and Olivia “Stace Face” sweater dress is a standout piece all on its own yet, it’s a canvas that begs to be worn in countless ways.

If you’re the subtle type and still want to be noticed without being flashy, try a khaki trench coat with flesh toned shoes.

Edgy? Throw on a black leather moto coat and combat boots.

If you’re a little daintier and like the quirkiness of this dress, wear it all on its own with sock style heels and a chic chain strap cross body clutch.

The possibilities are endless in this piece. Which literally looks like a piece of art was sketched right on to it. Seriously! Am I obsessed for wanting to box frame this sweater and ensure it doesn’t ruin? Okay… maybe a little. The Alice and Olivia “Stace Face” sweater tunic is a versatile standout piece that is sure to get you noticed and feeling confident. Dress it up like your walking the runway while strolling down Madison Avenue.

P.S. I recommend wearing this dress with a pair of Alice and Olivia Dina Calf Hair Pumps (preferably green if you can get your hands on them or something similar)

ANTHROPOLOGIE Fluttered Fete Skirt

Anthropologie “Fluttered Fete” midi skirt By Eva Franco

Photo: My iPhone

Feel like twirling in this skirt? I don’t blame you! This is my all time favorite wardrobe piece! The Anthropologie Fluttered Fete Midi skirt by Eva Franco is love at first sight. A midi tulle skirt is a no brainer when it comes to making a fashion statement. Eva Franco makes this piece standout with intricate stitching of plant vines and chiffon flowers that pop right off the skirt, giving this piece it’s flutter look and feel. The extra layer of tulle underneath the lining of this A-line skirt adds a little pouf for a flouncy look.

What To Wear

Keep calm. Its Fashion, not rocket science. The “fluttered fete” skirt is perfect if you’re attending a formal affair and need to add a dressy top and sparkly heels. Tulle is a fabric commonly used for formal dresses and ballerina tutus. My personal rule of style for wearing formal fabrics is to pair them with casual pieces, creating a more wearable look and comfortable feel. This gives more balance to the ensemble. Nothing feels more awkward than riding the subways in a ballgown or wearing jeans and converse to a wedding. If you are the edgy type, I do recommend a leather moto jacket or a denim over shirt.  A simple solid colored tee or graphic will make this skirt easier to look at when taking a stroll through Manhattan. If you are going for a solid color top, I recommend something with a little texture. The focus on this outfit is obviously the skirt which has plenty of texture in place, so it is important to keep slight textures on the top and minimal graphics. Fashion lives on the streets. Especially in the city. Which is why your shoes will always be a key element to any outfit. I prefer flesh toned heels that mimic my skin tone, making my legs look lean and defined. Even in a midi skirt. It also keeps the focus on my skirt and doesn’t distract from the beauty of it. After all, the fluttered fete skirt is the star of the show. Overall, the “fluttered fete” midi skirt is a feminine, chic, and noteworthy statement piece to keep in your wardrobe. With it’s timeless silhouette, the splurge on this beauty is definitely worth the investment.
